Should I commute?

I'm really contemplating commuting because it'll save me 15,000 and since NYU's only giving me 12k it'll cut down the overall cost to 30000. Only thing is that i put on my application that i'll be dorming and i put in my housing down payment of 1000....i don't mind losing the 1000 dollars if it saves my 15k but can i still switch from dorming to housing?? Any input would be greatly appreciated

How long would your commute be? If it’s going to take you two hours each way, then I don’t think it’s worth it. Something else to consider is dorming the first year and commuting every other year, so you still get the freshman experience (and the friendships that come with living together), and then you can save money other years. This was pretty common with my commuter friends

yeah about 45 minutes. im thinking about dorming first year, commuting second, then being an RA third and fourth year

That sounds like a solid plan, but be warned, competition for the RA spots is pretty fierce (and I’m not totally sure that you can be an RA after leaving housing? I would check on that, because you usually need to participate in things like residence hall councils, etc, for a better chance at the job)

now all i gotta do is convince my parents to let me go to nyu lol…they kinda want me to go to tcnj b/c of the cost and like idk what to do…I’m doing pre-med with a major in politics @jazzcatastrophe any advice?
