Should I consider retaking a 34?

I am a junior who received a 34 on the June ACT. My subscore: 36E, 32M, 33R, 36 S.

Should I consider retaking the test? While my composite is good, I scored lower in math and reading, and I believe both are considered very important sections. Shooting for Ivies and other top schools.

my friend also got a 34 and talked to an admissions person at Boston College, he said she shouldn’t bother retaking t. That being said, it can’t hurt!

It can’t hurt since you can delete your ACT scores. Just take it once more and if you did worse or the same, just simply delete the score. Or keep it depending on if your school superscores ACT or not. Keep in mind many top schools don’t super score the ACT. (There are still a bunch that still superscore like amherst, caltech, duke, GT, Johns Hopkins, MIT, Tufts, UChicago, and Williams to name a few) I wouldn’t waste time prepping though. You should use that time to start on your apps.

At most schools, anything above a 34 will make no difference. Possible exceptions for Mudd, Caltech, and maybe a few others. Maybe.

@YoLolololol How exactly does one delete an ACT score?

@tigerman333 You mail the ACT requesting to have your score deleted. Google it for details. You can delete as many scores as you want.

Focus on other things. Adcoms will spend 15 seconds checking your score is in the ballpark. It will NOT be a differentiator, whether you have 33 or 35. No difference - 15 seconds, passes the threshold, on to the rest. That’s it .
It’s to your advantage to focus on the rest.

Thanks for the help @MYOS1634. Much appreciated.
