Should I contact the admissions office?

So here's my situation. I live overseas so I videotaped my audition and emailed it to the school of music last November, so I was expecting to receive a notice from the school of music that I applied to at the beginning of March. so I e-mailed the admissions office to ask about when I will receive the letter during that week, only to find out that the faculty still hasn't reviewed my audition tape yet, even though it was passed the audition dates for live auditions. She apologised and said she would notify the faculty ASAP and want me to wait patiently until the result comes out. I have been waiting since then, even though I have e-mailed her pretty much every week with different questions so I wouldn't sound too pushy yet I want to know how it has been going, till I stopped about 2 weeks ago, cuz I realised I am sounding too annoying e-mailing her every week. However, it's the beginning of April and I still haven't heard anything from her or the school. And because of this, my admission status to the University have been pending. And the acceptance of admission deadline for my other schools is coming up soon (May 1st) and I have also expressed this concern to her but she just told me to continue waiting patiently and she will get back to me as soon as she has heard anything. So now my dilemma is should I e-mail here again this week to ask about the progress or should I not? I don't want to continue to bother her since i know it's not her fault yet I am really anxious about the result. It's my dream school and it's also the last school that I haven't heard from and I really need to make a decision soon.

So any advice?

Is there anyway to check the status online? 2 of my D’s acceptances were online before we got the letter or email.
I would contact them again.

No. The online portal only shows the status for the university in general. The school of music acceptance letter come in snail mail. But considering my circumstance, she said she will scan the letter and email me the PDF file. So now my only concern is that would it sound too pushy to email her again this week? I don’t want to give a bad impression since I am still waiting for a decision from the school. Thanks.

I would email again this week. Did you have contact with a teacher at anytime? If so, you might try contacting them. At one school, the online portal showed that my D’s application was incomplete, but we knew everything had been sent. She could not get an answer with admissions, so she contacted the teacher and he checked for her and got the problem taken care of.

You should e-mail her again I think. I don’t think she would be annoyed, as long as you keep it very concise, nice and polite, and don’t give out the vibe that you are tired of waiting. It seems like she has been pretty nice to you, getting back to you and offering to scan the letter, so you could also thank her for her help and time as well. I think admission officers are dealing with a lot of people and a lot of questions, and it’s unlikely that they would spend much time thinking about whether or not you personally sound pushy. They answer hundreds of emails and do a million things. I sometimes feel that we, applicants on the waiting side, over-analyze our contact with admission offices. It is only April 4, you still have plenty of time. Right this week, I think schools are very busy with graduate students, trying to deal with appeals, waitlists, studio assignments, etc… before Grad Decision Day on April 15.

Hi. Thank you all for the responses. I think I will shoot her an email asking how’s the progress and just keep it at that. And yeah I know I may be over analyzing this but I just want to make sure I don’t sound annoying or pushy since I understand that feeling, being pushed by someone when u have no power to do anything about it.

Oh and yeah I did try to contact the teachers once (before finding out that they still haven’t watched my audition tape yet) about getting feedback a for my audition, but they never responded.

I would definitely email again–something is not right here. That video should have been watched a long time ago. Was it supposed to have been for a prescreening? Was there a place to specify on the application that you wanted the DVD to be used in lieu of a live audition? Somehow, some miscommunication occurred.

I e-mailed her today and she said my acceptance came in yesterday, she was just out of the office so she couldn’t e-mail me my letter but will do it as soon as possible. Anyways, I am so happy now =D Finally, the devastating wait is now over. Thank you everyone for responding.

YAY! Congratulations!!

Happy dancing . . .

Terrific news!
