Should I continue music lessons?

As it is currently the summer before my junior year, I was trying to decide what extracurriculars to do this year. I’ve decided to join NHS and apply for several volunteering opportunities. However, I don’t know wether or not to do piano lessons. I started in third grade and continued up until sophomore year. Is it worth starting again? How much do colleges value this? I am not performing or doing anything else with it. I just don’t know if it’s worth the time. Thanks for your help!

How much do you value it? Do you enjoy your lessons and your practice? Is it worth your time and energy? Only you can decide and you should not base your decision upon what an admission counselor at a college would think of your piano, but how you feel.

Music lessons won’t really affect your college admissions chances, but neither will NHS and (most) volunteer work.

I’d say stick with it! I’ve been playing the piano for eight years now, and I love it. You could do National Guild, in which you choose any number of any pieces and play them for the judge. You’ll also have to play scales and chords, but they are very simple and can be memorized easily. For Guild, you get a certificate, on which there are comments from the judge and a pass/no pass indication, depending on your score, and a pin. It’s a very fun and easy way to show that you are doing more than just playing pieces at home.
