Should I declare a major?

Hey I was wondering if anybody could help me decide on wheather I should pick a major or apply undeclared. I'm from california, I'm Latino and I'm thinking of applying to mostly to UC schools. I was thinking of majoring engineering, most likely chem engineering, but I've been having my doubts lately. Loads of people have been telling me engineering is super hard and you have study hours and hours, and not only that it would probably make my chances of getting into a good UC school (like UCLA, UCB, or UCSD) even slimmer. I hear it would be easier to get into a good UC with an undeclared major, but I heard for other UC schools one should declare a major. I guess I wouldn't mind doing a lot of work, even though it would be rigorous. Yet, I'm uncertain of what other majors I could do, I'm mostly good at math and science, I'm not a genuis in those areas, but it's what I'm good at. Does anyone have any advice?

anybody have any advice?

For All UCs, if you want to major in Engineering, you must put Engineering as your major or you will be be admitted to the normal "college" of the UC, the College of Letters and Sciences "L&S", instead of the College of Engineering "CoE".

It is very hard to transfer from L&S to CoE, especially at Berkeley & LA.

Also, if you want to do Chemical Engineering at Berkeley, you must put Chemical Engineering instead of just Engineering, because for some reason Chemical Engineering is not in the College of Engineering, but in a separate College of Chemistry.

If you are honestly undecided, then say so. You can always use your essays to express personal and academic intersts. I have actually ended up changing my major 3 or 4 times since matriculating to my school. :)
