Should I do assignments on the computer or paper?

I have some summer assignments and they require typing papers and doing note cards. Do you think I should do all of my assignments on the computer because you can save, retrive, and re-print them anytime you want.

The only down side is if your computer or printer fails or you run out of ink. <-- This has happened to me a couple of times throughout the year. It is very stressful when you are in that position.

But again, if I hand-write my papers, I can't duplicate them, and if I lose them, I can't re-print or retrieve them in any way. :-/

you're teachers would let you hand write papers??

Get a travel drive and back everything onto the travel drive so you are not dependent on one computer. You can always print at a friend's house if the printer is broken. I think Kinko's prints things, too, but I have never done that.

Of course, you'll print everything off days before you have to turn it in, so you'll know there is no problem.

why would you hand write your papers?
listen to kollegkid

I don't know.. I love typing though because it is more neat and organized and I can type pretty fast. What about note cards? Should I do them on the computer too?

I even tried to do my math hw on the computer once but I realized that it took too long. Sometimes I just can't get somethings to work and it ends up taking me longer than I write. =/

Type papers. Handwrite notecards. Handwriting the notecards will help you learn the material as you make them. Like kollegekid said, buy a travel drive just in case your printer doesn't work.

yeah... handwrite the cards, but do everything else on the computer.

"I even tried to do my math hw on the computer once but I realized that it took too long. Sometimes I just can't get somethings to work and it ends up taking me longer than I write. =/"

That's why I suggest you invest in a scanner. Money well spent on my part.

You should definitely learn LaTeX. That's what the cool kids use to type up math.

<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LaTeX%5B/url%5D">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LaTeX</a></p>

Actually, I know how to type in Latex but I just don't know where I can produce documents with it. Do you know where?

<a href="http://www.tug.org/protext/%5B/url%5D">http://www.tug.org/protext/</a></p>

Protext -- a LaTeX distribution for Windows. From here, you just have to follow the website's instructions VERY CAREFULLY, because there are several things you need to get LaTeX up and running. (as some would put it, RTFM).

And when they ask you if you want WinEdt or TeXnicCenter, definitely choose TeXnicCenter, since it's free.

It even lets you produce PDF files from LaTeX code.

just chisel your paper on a little stone pyramid

About Protext, does it seriously take up that much space? What for? The estimated time to download is 2 hrs..

You'll notice that many worthwhile programs to have take up a lot of space on your computer.

MATLAB is roughly 2 GB large. Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel, etc.) is roughly 500 MB.

In comparison, how large is proteXt? It can perform a lot of the functions of Microsoft Office, and many more, even if it's not the easiest interface in the world :)

I see now. Thanks for telling me this! =] I'll give it a shot.

Comp. Totally. In India we're only allowed to use paper (sigh). I'd love to print out assignments et al!

I have had several classes where everything was submitted via e-mail/Blackboard/WebCT. No paper at all. Yea!

yeah get a flash drive
always back up ur files
that way u wont lose them
and if u ever have ne printer probs, u still have the files in ur flash drive so u can find somewhere else to print it out
since they REQUIRE u to type them, y u asking this??
