Should I do e-mail notification?

Yeah the thread title says it all ;) But I'm self-conflicted and I need someone's advice, so who better than a bunch of strangers on CC? :) So, in your humble opinion, should I have my decision sent by e-mail or wait for the real letter to come. I've always figured it would be a nice experience to open up the letter and see, but, is it really worth it? Maybe those who have already been through the experience can help out ;) And plus, opening an e-mail seems so anti-climatic, as opposed to the letter...The pros for the e-mail are that you find out earlier (but hey, patience is a virtue, right? lol) and that, since most everyone else finds out early decisions for their schools Weds. or Thurs. also, I'll be able to go to school and share the results with everyone else, instead of waiting until Monday. Which is similarly anti-climatic, lol. Right now I have the option turned off but I can always change it...OK, I've rambled long enough :) Advice, anyone?

Sign up for the e-mail. Last year's applicants said that there was no notification in the subject line, so just don't open the message if you want to wait for the climactic envelope-opening moment. If/when you finally decide later this week that you can't wait anymore because most people on the forums (and at school) have their decisions, then you can have the option of opening the e-mail. If you don't sign up for it now, you won't have any option but to wait for the mail. What a travesty! ;)

E-mail. That way, you won't make a fool of yourself in the driveway (whether it be going mad because you didn't get in or it be going histerical because you did).

First of all, it may be too late for you to change in time. I went through the same problem and it took them two days to change their notification schedule for me. I originally felt that e-mail was too impersonal as a means of rejection (I wasn't feeling optimistic), but I eventually switched to e-mail notification because waiting for the mail is just so taxing at this point in time- I don't have the patience, and if you do, then I congratulate you on your virtue.

You mentioned waiting on another thread. It's a nice idea, really, but I wouldn't go for it. I want to have my decision when other kids in my class do. I also don't think it would be so much more climatic waiting for the letter; maybe it's just me, but I can see myself staring at the header before opening the email. I want to find out early, too, so I can pull together some safety schools if I need to (I'll be applying to Columbia and Chicago regardless).

The fact is, whether you get the email or letter, the same process is going to happen. Wait for it to come. Stare at the header or envelope. Open. Read. I don't see the difference, except perhaps the fulfillment of this preconcepted notion we've developed about what the experience ought to be, as seen on TV and movies.

Yeah, thanks everyone, I think I've decided to go with e-mail. I changed my preference on the Harvard site so hopefully it'll go through. I don't want to do it from impatience but the other pros--getting it when everyone else does and being able to know whether or not to do so many more apps--outweigh that experience of opening the letter. Hey, it's just a letter ;) Thanks.

i too faced the same thing-i've always wanted to open a (hopefully large) envelope.

but in the end, i decided i couldn't wait.
so click i shall.

even if you do get in, the ea envelopes are small. so sorry.
