Should I do EDI or EDII?

I really love Vassar, it's a clear first choice, and I want to apply ED. Now the question is, which ED option? For some backround...

ACT Comp: 27
English: 30
Math: 26
Reading: 28
Science: 23
10 on essay

GPA: About 3.3/3.4ish, school doesn't weigh.
Sex: Male
Race: White
From AZ

I'm applying to Vassar ED not only because I love it, but also because I'm hoping my excellent recs, essays, and high interest will balance my low GPA and scores. I'm taking the ACT again tomorrow, hoping for a 28+ (ideally a 30), but I won't know my scores until November 14-16 online, which isn't too good for Vassar's EDI. If they're good, I'll just priority mail them to Vassar.

But I'm assuming that if I apply to Vassar EDI, then Vassar will not see my semester grades. Yet if I apply EDII, then Vassar will. However, Vassar is not the only selective college I'm applying to, and at this point, I'm merely trying to maximize my chances at getting into a good school. My plan would be to...

Apply to Vassar EDI. if accepted, then that's fantastic. If rejected and/or deferred, then apply EDII to Macalester College.

Does the above admissions plan sound good? Or should I just wait and apply EDII to Vassar?

In the instructions part of the application packet (on-line) it says Vassar will NOT review anyone's application without first quarter grades. So you MUST submit them or your application will be held in limbo or deferred until you send them.

Ok, I'll send those quarter grades in then.

But what option, given my current status, should I apply under? Option 1 or 2?

ive always been confused about this: if you get rejected ed1 can you apply ed2 at another school?

cuz that was my plan too, but i cant find anywhere that says whether im allowed to do it!

and ive always wondered whether it looks as good to apply ed2 as ed1 considering the deadline is the same as rd...

but here is my advice for you (not that im an expert at all):
if you think your semester grades will be STELLAR, apply ed2. if youre quarter grades are stellar, apply ed1... that may be oversimplifying the situation but thats how i would look at it if i was in your shoes. i have no idea about your chances as i dont know much specifically about vassar's admissions process, though :/

I've asked several colleges, so the answer is yes: if you apply to, say, college X ed1 and are REJECTED or DEFERRED, then you can go right ahead and apply ed2 to college y, as the binding contract you made to college x would only be in effect if you were ACCEPTED.

And though many debate it, all colleges say that they consider both ED applicant pools in the same way, and that no one pool is stronger or enjoying a higher admit rate than the other.
