Should I do it? I need advice.

I am currently student in one of the top three Universities in Russia. 2nd year computer science, bachelor’s. I only recently realized that I can apply to US universities. Is it worth leaving my current university and starting it all over again? I want to know all pros and cons.

Are you a college student now?
Pro: lots of academic/research opportunities
Diversity
More job opportunities, if you want to work in US

Con: COST.(NO FA for INT transfer)

Can you afford a US university?

No, my parents can’t afford it. So I am going to apply as a freshman to get a financial aid. That’s kind of messed up, because I already spent 2 years getting pretty decent education. So I’m in doubt.

Then you shouldnt. You cant apply for frosh because you are a transfer student and there is no aid for transfer student

Wait! So you are saying that I can’t apply for college just like kids after high school? Why?

You aren’t a freshman. You have already been in university, so that makes you a transfer student, which is a separate category from a Freshman.

Exactly.
And No, you cant pretend u didnt go to college btw. Just saying. There was this very stupid idiot who asked us: can I hide my college and bad high school record and apply for frosh? Everyone liferally stoned at him

Is it for real? So even if I leave my current university (you know, without diploma and stuff) I still have no chances to enroll as a freshman?

But you know, if I leave my university, I technically won’t be a student anymore. And there is nothing to transfer me from.

You are still required to turn in all academic records, and that would include those from this university you currently attend, even if there is a break.

Attend in the US for grad school.

Just want to clear that up: is there ANY possible way to apply for bachelors in my situation and get a financial aid? You know, because if I attend university in Russia I’m spending my chance for free education in Russia. And still got a chance in US. Or that’s not the case…?

And what if I just lie? What’s going to happen?

And what if I change majors?

Did my research, no, I can’t. Thank you all.

Our advice: don’t do stuff like lying to colleges. There is no way you can deceive them.
Again, no FA for int transfer.
Try for US graduate school.

UNLESS you weren’t in a “university” in US terms even if the word is “university”. That is, Russia’s secondary school ends in Year 10, right? Then there’s Year 1 in “college” or “university” rather than Year 11, year 2 rather than Year 12…these 2 years wouldn’t be “college” in the US… (like in Pakistan, I think, where “college” really means “6th form college” ie., high school).
How old are you? How old are the students who enter your school (typically) and how many years of secondary school have they had?
You could email colleges and ask about this if it’s the case - for example how do they consider students who did Russian HS Year 10 then did their specialty subjects and are in their second year of that at a university - do they consider Year 10 as 12th grade, or as 10th grade, and in that case, do they consider what you’re doing 11th and 12th or College first+second years?
As you know, there’s no financial aid for international transfers so if you’re currently a Year 12 + 2 student, you’re better off finishing your degree and applying for grad school. Perhaps your university has exchange semesters or years, which you could spend in the US to get a taste of undergraduate life here.

Some colleges and universities do offer financial aid to international transfer students. However, those are also the most difficult places to get into as a transfer, so the chance of you getting in and getting aid is very, very small.

You are much better off to complete your undergraduate degree in Russia, then apply to graduate school in the US. Most PhD programs and some Masters programs in computer science will have full funding.

Thanks everyone! I’m going to pursue my Masters in US.
