should i do SCEA

I think you should definitely have 2 teachers and a counselor recommendation. I imagine you might be able to submit others. By “careful,” I mean to say there are factors – they may know you very well, but are they necessarily good at conveying that to the university? It’s important to respect the fact that your application is all they see of you! If you’re good at mathematics, and want that to be the predominant point of emphasis, well your past literature teacher might not be able to write as well about that, even if this teacher is very articulate and loves you.

You have to submit 1 teachers’ recs and a counselor rec. In addition there is an optional “extra” rec _ you can (and should) ask your mentor to write.

hmmm. one teacher’s rec? well. ok. again , the thing is , I have teachers who will commend my mental abilities ( math teacher) and teachers( english teacher)who will praise my personality. whcich should i choose? also. my history teacher will commend both and write an excellent rec…so i dunno who to ask.any advice? because i really have no clue what stanford’s looking for …the addtional rec i will definitely ask my mentor and he should write me a good one…so yeah. thanks guys!

but on the other hand…though history would be a good option, it’s not something i want to emphasize…so i’m really lost.

eheh cool! I do Indian dancing too and got my Associates Degree during freshman year. What type do you do?

i do bharatnatyam. you?

Sorry, snowy. I meant 2 teachers’ recs + counselor rec + optional one.

Choose teachers who know you well, and LOVE you. Teachers who can write well are a plus.

thanks for the correction nngmm!! i’ll remember to choose about the recs carefully

cool! me too ahaha. have you done your arang yet?

nope. i’m doing it end of senior year.

ALSO:i want to emphasize science on my app. I really want to ask my ap bio teacher for a rec. but the probelm is i took ap bio in 9th grade so i can’t really ask him…and also i know my hisotry teacher will give me a really really amazing rec but…should i not ask him because he’s a history teacher?

I agree with mathboy. Definitely be careful about which teachers you ask to write your recommendations. One of my teachers let me read hers after she submitted it, and I happened to see the recommendations she wrote for other students, and they were exactly the same with the exception of the name and other minor details such as ECs that she mentioned. Get teachers who will not cut and paste. Ask teachers who will put time and effort into your recommendation.

History teacher is perfectly fine. I think Stanford wants 1 rec from math/ science teacher, and one from humanities/ Soc. Sci teacher (though this might have changed…)
Freshmen year teacher may not remember you well enough to write a meaningful personal rec. You will be better off with a more recent teacher who has something special to say.

ah. i see. i’ll keep that in mind.

hey guys, I was just wondering…I am from Hong Kong and I have a national ranking in the top 20. Would that be good to put on my app or is it just too common? (since there is all the Tennis talk) Thanks :)

since there was all the Tennis talk* srry.

hey. i think that’s pretty awesome. you should def put in on your app if you’re ranked.

thanks! does anyone else have any opinions?

would applying RD increase my chances of admission?

Only if your application improves by the RD deadline (compared to EA deadline)

imporoves in what way? because it’s not drastically going to change. maybe just my scores but other than that it won’t…
