Should I do scientific research?

I do not plan to major in anything science related. However, I was told in order to stand a chance in admissions to elite college, I must have a research position. And, I can’t find a position anywhere that I could actually commute to or even beyond that, I was told that I should ask a professor in which cause I will more than likely be an inconvenience to that professor. I don’t know if research includes social science since I plan to major in Business, Economics or Finance and Political Science, International Relations or Global Affairs. In that cause I guess it would help me, otherwise i am not sure if it would help me or even be worth the trouble of stocking a professor.

Could anyone provide any information or insight about this top, all would be appreciated?

If you’re not planning on majoring in anything science related, then a research position would be a waste of your time and the professor’s time.

Social science research is possible but you have to make sure its something that you’ll be genuinely interested in. You can probably come up with your own research and then contact a professor but since you’re doing social science, it might be best if you tag on to a professor’s project.
