So I'm applying to Cornell AAP and they require an interview.

The thing is, I live in California. BUT, I could definitely go to New York to do the interview, it's probably the best opportunity for me to visit the campus and show dedication
But, I received my interviewer's contact information and he's the dean of engineering (but lives in long beach idk?). Since I was curious, I read his bio which said he was also the director of Mechanical and Aerospace engineering. I did a Boeing internship during the summer and I thought it would be a really good topic to bring up because of his background.

Sorry, so my question is: Would it be more advantageous to have the interview on campus (at cornell?) or off campus (in long beach).

I would vote for the long beach interview. If he is a dean at Cornell now, that sounds like a much better interviewer than you are likely to get on campus. It sounds like his interests are right up your alley too! There are many ways to express your passion, it is a huge trip to make and I don’t think it will have major benefit.

If you are unsure about whether to apply to Cornell, then definitely visit, because you will fall in love and it will persuade you to apply. If you already know you’re going to apply, then you don’t have to make the trip now and wait until after acceptances come out to visit.

I’d interview with the guy in long beach. Sometimes employees of the college do interviews when they are traveling to different high schools and such --my D did two locally with admission officers who were on the road in our area. Still, you still may want to visit before committing to the school.
