Does it increase/decrease my chances, or have any effect at all, if I DO check the secondary admission box? What do the admissions committee think/how do they respond when they see that an applicant has utilized this option?

This is my situation:
Cornell is my #1 all time favouite school.
I am applying ED this fall to Human Ecology.
I will not need financial aid.
I am an international student.

Also, I am aware that I would have to write another supp. essay for that secondary college, which I hope will not be necessary ;)

please help!! thank you :)

As stated on the Cornell web site, the college reserves the right to consider applicants for their alternate college. So, you will not automatically be reviewed by the alternate college. However, if you select an alternate college, it will not affect the review of your application by the primary college, which in your case you have indicated is Human Ecology. Students who select an alternate college are generally passionate about more than one area, and want to have the opportunity to be considered for both their primary and alternate interests. Also, when you write the essay for the alternate college, it should be specific to that college–do not take the essay you wrote for the primary college and modify it for the alternate college.
