I love this school, and applying this way is likely the only way I would ever be able to obtain an acceptance letter (yes, I'm a mortal, unfortunately). However, I can't pay $200k to go to school, even if my EFC says so.

Basically, I'm wondering.....

Can I still apply here ED and assume that I will be offered some kind of FA to take it down to a more manageable $20-$25k a year or so? I realize that's still a lot, but this school is worth it and I believe that's the max that I could resonably cover.

You’re not bound to your ED decision if you simply can’t afford to come, based on the aid they’ve offered. Whether admissions would be willing to take your word for it if your EFC says you’ve gotten enough financial aid(or don’t need any), though, I’m not so sure on sorry

Basically, I wouldn’t bank on getting much more aid than your EFC predicts, although if it’s somewhat borderline and you can present a convincing case to the financial aid office they may be able to make adjustments and work things out. Best of luck, whatever you decide!

We struggled with this same issue. Went back and forth - lost sleep! My daughter knows it is her #1 choice. She was invite to discovery weekend and found it was a perfect fit - miles better than any other. I did the EFC calculator on College Board and it gave me a # we could live with - but then after talking to the financial aid office they told me to use a calculator at the finaid website (IM method) and it came out with a significantly higher number. So we decided to go regular decision and wait and see if she can get scholarship money. I feel your pain though & good luck!!!
