???
Why do you want to do this?
I’m petroleum right now but I feel like I haven’t left my options open. i mean in an extra year I could apply to NASA rather than just Chevron. Also the market is so fickle I might just want to settle down and get an easy, dependable job as a mechanical engineer somewhere. I am a sophomore now.
I have almost straight A’s btw. Only B’s were in English and an unimportant elective. I’m in fluid dynamics now.
I’d do it if I were you.
PE is no longer the energy business that attracts the best engineers.
Best to pivot as fast as you can while you are still in college.
Judging since 2010? Oil prices will be going up. However I still just feel “restricted” at job interviews and things
A double major is almost invariably a waste of time. If you are that concerned about your choice of major, it would be just as useful to just swap over to ME. If you still graduate in less ghan5 years with the swap, it’s even better because then you could spend that time you would have been using to double major to either earn money or work on a graduate degree, both of which are more useful than a dual major.
why is it a waste of time exactly? why can spending one extra year learning the basics of an entire other field be useless?
Because businesses don’t usually want a jack of all trades. They want someone who is going to be very knowledgeable about their job and it’s required skills. You are better off using that year to earn money or specialize.
Do a co-op for a semester would be better than getting a second major in an extra year. Note that you are going to lose one year of work experience plus spending one whole year of CoA compared with those graduated in 4 years with a single major, If there is no extra cost or time, then it is a different story.
