I know I want to major in Psychology, that has been my plan for as long as I can remember. Recently I've toyed with the idea of double majoring. I would like to (possibly) double major in Psychology and History. I know it will be challenging but I think it wouldn't be as challenging as say majoring in psychology and engineering since both of my potential majors are in the same area, liberal arts. I want to go into law enforcement once I graduate and think both majors would be beneficial to me, but I'm not sure if I need to double major or just major minor. What do you guys think I should do? I'll be attending school in the fall of 2015. I'm currently taking a gap year and rethinking a lot of my decisions.

Seriously guys, no replies? I need a little input here.

I don’t think history would be particularly helpful. I can come up with a number of better options off the top of my head for a minor or second major - criminal justice, sociology, forensic science (or even a basic understanding of science) , Spanish. Having said that, if you like history, there’s nothing wrong with it as a second major or minor.

It most likely won’t matter. If you can do the double major without sacrificing too much, then do it. If it’s going to make you take longer to graduate or take time away from work experience/internships/etc, then get a minor or just take history electives.

Well I plan on going into law enforcement and the LAPD website says that history is a good major as it applies to art theft, missing persons unit, training projects unit, logistics unit.

Interesting, susie. I hadn’t seen history as a major when I looked at a number of sites. But if that is where your interests lie, then go for it. (I am however still trying to wrap my mind around it.)

If you have the discipline and work ethic than go for it, it will be hard and I know I dont have what it takes to double major, but everyone is different.
