I’m a junior in high school. My school weights ap classes the same as honors classes so a c in an ap physics class is the same as a c in honors English. My question is whether I should take a c plus as a final grade in ap physics or drop out of the class for the sake of my gpa and class rank. From what i hear ivys like to see that you challenge yourself in highschool but what’s the point if you have a c on your transcript??
I would drop out if I were you. A C wouldn’t be good to show on a transcript, especially if you are doing a lot of work for an AP class when it is weighted the same. As long as you are taking other AP’s/Honors with good grades in them, it will show that you take rigorous classes.
The thing is I’m worried that I won’t have enough ap classes. Right now I am in ap calculus, ap history 2, advanced honors English and took advanced honors history 1 last year since my school doesn’t offer ap history sophomore year. My school offers very few ap classes juniors and the only reason why I was able to take ap Calc and physics was because I doubled up on classes freshmen and sophomore year by taking classes in place of lunch. Do colleges take into consideration the # of ap classes you take senior year because when applying to college I feel that I will be lacking in my number of ap classes.
They usually don’t use AP classes as a deciding factor. If anything, they make you stand out from other applicants if you did well, but if it’s something you’re not interested in or having a hard time with, I’d drop it. Besides, you already look as though you have a challenging schedule already.
