Should I drop another class and maintain my 4.0 or settle with a B

Hello, I’m new to this website and I’ve been hoping to get some advice. Over the summer, I’ve been taking an accounting class. However, I did not complete all the homeworks due to lack of wifi and a surgery the night before thus I was heavily drugged. Of the 8 homeworks I missed, my teacher allowed me to do 4 of them and now my standing grade is a B. Up till this point I’ve maintained a 4.0 but with a B for this subject it’ll ruin my gpa. I’ve already dropped a class in the past and I have a W in my transcript. I’m currently in a community college and I’ll be applying for transfer this fall. What do you think I should do?

Take the B. Explain it in the additional information section. Show that you are persistent and don’t bend over backwards for a 4.0! One B on your transcript will not kill you.

As a confession from a die-hard 4.0 graduate: just take the B. Having the 4.0 really doesn’t matter in the end. All that happens is you get your name specially called at graduation, and all eyes are on you for maybe 4 seconds at most. Most importantly, your sanity will thank you when the weight of perfectionism is off your shoulders.

Additionally, a lot of universities will only count the GPA you earned from them towards your graduation GPA, meaning you can still graduate with a 4.0 from your eventual university despite not having earned a 4.0 at your community college.

Also let this be a lesson to you that sometimes you may need to withdraw/not sign up for a class if you cannot do the homework/attend class because of health issues or lack of computer access. If you can scrape a B, do it!

Okay, thank you so much for all the feedback. He was very kind and my grades were still enough to get me a B.

I am wondering why you took this class when you had surgery scheduled. Maybe it was an emergency. I am amazed you passed a test at all the day after surgery. No one in their right mind needs to retake a B or drop a class in which they are getting a B.

My mother scheduled the surgery and I wasn’t aware of the timing. I didn’t miss an exam, I had a few homeworks unfinished and it was past their due date. I had a 4.0 before this class so I would’ve retaken this class in a heartbeat if I had known I would’ve gotten a B :frowning: @Lindagaf

The 4.0 does not really matter that much.

Trust me, 4.0 GPA’s in college are like unicorns: rare. Do not fret over one B.

@conceptcat @Undercrackers okay thanks for telling. Because it did really mean a lot.

Yes take the B. The only class I was one that I had the top grade and a very secure A. The faculty was a fountain of misinformation and told mind minding jokes. He wondered why I wanted to drop. The responded with a socially appropriate response and then went off to celebrate.

Protect your time and brain. There is little space between a 3.9 and 4. I earned a B in the most important class I took and am so proud of what I accomplished to merit that B.

@zannah okay thank you for the advice
