This is the first time I am ever failing a class. Is it better to drop the class next semester, or to push through and try to get a better grade? Is it recommended to take a general bio course at my local cc? What will happen to my chances for CalStates? Should I just attend cc instead? It is also my junior year.
You can get a study guide like Barron’s and push through if you have the discipline.
I took AP Bio and I ended up getting a B-. I’ll give you my advice and you can decide what you want to do with it:
I took AP Bio in my senior year (2 years ago) and the teacher was new at teaching the course. Because of this, she ended up teaching the course in a really disorganized way. A lot of students didn’t do well and even my friends who were A students in other APs were getting by with B’s. I considered dropping AP Bio so that I can focus on Calc BC, but I decided to push through. I used Barron’s AP Biology as a study tool and I made sure to go over my notes. I took a bunch of colored pens and highlighted and annotated my notes. These annotations would range from making key points to asking questions about the material (e.g. “what if x happened but y didn’t?”). However, there was only so much I could do given my teacher’s horrific course management and other obligations. In the end, I got a 3 on the AP Exam, but I was okay with it because I still remember a lot of what I learned and it helped me get an A on my current biology class.
Moral of this story: Stick to what you originally planned to do and make sure that you can get through. If you feel like you can’t do it, you can drop the course. Nothing is holding you back from doing so.
I really hope this helped and best of luck with school! You got this
