Should I drop AP Chemistry? It’s my senior year

3rd week of school just ended and I didn’t do as well on the test as I thought. The first summer assignment test, I was careless and got a 59%. This test I took today, I got a 22/30 for the MC portion which is 50% of the test grade. Free Response is on Tuesday so I have some time to study. I am not sure whether to drop or not. I’m just disappointed and stressed out. I took honors chemistry before but it was nothing like the application AP gives you. I got an A first semester and a 89% second sem by putting in little effort. The other AP science course I took was Bio (B’s both semester and a 4). What are your advices? I plan on reviewing each day for the next unit after lectures so it builds up and do some extra practice (khan, Bozeman and review book). Don’t get me wrong, I love the class, topic and teacher but it’s just one of those GPA wrecker. Cumulative Unweighted right now is 3.86

Have you talked with your teacher?

  1. How did you do relative to other students? Are most kids doing better? or about the same?
  2. Talk to your teacher about their thoughts on what you should do. Do kids who continue tend to do badly? or is this a wake up call on figuring out how to study differently?
  3. What do you plan to major in? if STEM then you may need to take Chem in college.
  4. What would you take instead? Another science?
  5. have you read this? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/high-school-life/2026961-what-to-do-when-you-arent-doing-well-in-a-hs-class-p1.html

Form a study group. Get a tutor. Go to teacher help hours. Watch khan Academy.
  6. What other AP courses are you taking? Maybe you have too much going on.
