Should I drop AP Stats 2nd Sem. of Snr. year

Hi guys, I'm a senior and I currently have 5 classes first semester in Bible as Literature, Anatomy, AP Statistics, ROP Graphic Communication, and Economics. (I know there not that great classes)

I have a C in AP stats and it will remain that way as my final grade. I don't want to take it 2nd semester due to the difficulty I have with that class and it's only going to get harder.(Stats just isn't my thing and I'm afraid I'll do worse 2nd semester) I've already taken 8 semesters of math, and this fall semester will be my 9th.

I want to replace it with another elective class and also add track as my 6th class 2nd semester.

Will it affect me enough to have my application denied from UCI, UCSB, or UCD? I still will have greater than a 3.0 at the end of the semester.
(1810 SAT score, 520 USH & 510 math2c for SAT 2 , 3.8 weighted, 3.6 unweighted GPA)

Can anyone tell me if its a bad idea or if it's fine to drop it? Please help!

Drop it. My son is currently in Stats and I was very concerned how he would finish semester. He ended up doing ok, however if he would have gotten a C I was going to make him drop the class.

This is your senior year. Enjoy it. That is my philosophy this year for my son. I am letting him make decisions for himself.

Dropping it is NOT a good move since you have applied to selective colleges. Ask your counselor.

One of UCs main admissions criteria is strength of senior. It will either send the message that you have senior-itis, or that you struggle with ‘college-level’ work. Either is not good, since the mid-tier UCs are already a stretch with your gpa/test scores.

Currently, you only have 5 academic classes - UC doesn’t count Bible I don’t believe. Thus, dropping it means replacing it with a less rigorous class. Next year, a UC campus will expect you to take 4 college-level academic courses per quarter, 12 over the year, or ~6 per semester equivalent.

AP Stats is one of the easier AP courses, but perhaps not at your school. You might surprise yourself on the test and earn a 3 which will earn credit at at UC.

If you decide to drop, you must notify all colleges, including each UC campus.

btw: Stats is probably one of the most useful classes that you will ever take in life. Keep at it. Can you obtain a tutor?

I went and talked with my counselor today and she wasn’t much help. She just told me I had to contact each school individually and ask how it would affect my admission. Could I actually call and ask like that?

I might decide to keep AP stats but if I do, I probably won’t do track 2nd semester and stick with 5 periods.
But I have a question for that… If I put on my applications that I sent in November to colleges that I’m going to take a 4th year of track(which would be my 4th) next semester and decide not to anymore, do I contact each school I applied to individually and tell them? If so how?
