Should I Drop AP US History?

have the potential to succeed in this class, but my issue is that it is too much work at the moment - staying up to 2 AM...very often.

My teacher literally swamps us with homework. It's gotten to the point that I'm behind 80 pages and I have until Wednesday to finish them. In my past AP classes, AP US Government and AP World, I both received 5's and an A in the class, but this year my other classes .Honors Trig/PreCalc, AP Language and Composition, AP Environmental Science, AP Chemistry, Honors Spanish III, combined with AP Us History's work load is overwhelming.

On our first test, I received the highest score in the class, so I feel like I'm throwing this opportunity way. I have no vested interest in history at all in my near future, should I just switch to regular US History with lay less work and less stress?

I also feel like this would lower my GPA, but at the end, I feel like reducing the workload would make me feel a whole lot better. I really do not know. I really want to increase my class rank (I'm ranked 7th out of 510.., but I'm torn.)

Also, my teacher is very keen on me and always pigeonholes me (gives me lower grades because he knows I can relatively do better; he taught World History as well).

I really hate discussing in this class and he gives us massive articles (24 pages or more) that are meant for historians to read and it's really stressful. I think I should just quit.

I also am going for the AP Scholar award, where I get a certain amount of AP scores..But I don't know.

If I drop AP US History, I will have room for more extracurriculars - I want a Chemistry internship, too!

Well it really depends. Did you have a year of US History before taking the class? If so you can do it! If not its extremely excessive to study for APUSH. It’s apparent that you are doing well enough to achieve high grades but if it to much and you don’t love the subject, it might not be the best interest. For me an self study for both the SAT Subject US History exam and the APUSH exam because I love the subject and am going to have a career that deals with small does of the US History (Pre law and Political Science). But still try! If it get to much there’s other APs.

It’s my first year of AP US HISTORY. I do enjoy the class, but it’s too much work. He gives us articles twice a week, and they take about 3 hours to read (no exaggeration), and we have to type a page long summary, find a conclusive statement and write a thesis in conjunction with also reading tons of pages.

The thing is, my professor is one of the essay graders for the actual AP exam and he actually wrote the AP exam himself, he’s really experienced in this, so he really goes hardcore. so iIdon’t know. But thanks for your advice, and good luck with your career.

Switch to Reg. / Hon. US History and move on.

Yeah, might be best to switch out and get your hands on that chem internship. Do what’s really motivating for you.

@Cindy, Being that you have a Professor whom graded the APUSH exam (Lucky You), ask him for some help it would not hurt.
