This is the third week of school(11th grade) and the teacher is known to be very hard and strict.

Today when she collected essays for everyone in the beginning of class, my essay was lost in sea of papers on my desk. I hurried up and tried to find it which took me 20 seconds. Then I gave it to her and she said that when she asks to collect something, I must hand it immediately. She then turned around and walked away...
The essay was worth a big chunk of my grade and I have a 0 on it.

Will likely get a B+ in the class. Should be getting an A second semester since I know her policy now.

Should I just transfer to Academic(Regular) English 11 and get a really easy A? I took Honors English 10 last year though. I did get a A first semester but B+ second semester so it might show that I'm giving up.

I'm going to go the UC's but since I'm out of state, they don't give extra weight to honors classes. My school also doesn't weight honors classes so it will affect my class rank.

Also it will show on my permanent record a WP (withdrawal passing), but it will not be counted towards my GPA.

So you’re saying she wouldn’t accept the essay you had already prepared and walked away? I would have my parents weigh in on that. You had the essay finished.

If your HS doesn’t weight the GPA for H classes then I don’t see much of an issue in going down a level. However, saying you WILL be attending a UC from OOS is a little pretentious.

Yea, she did tell the class that in the first day of school. She even said that she wouldn’t accept it after its turned it and you hand it 1 minute later because you can’t find it till now.

My high school only gives extra weight for AP or Dual credit courses.

Also scratch the last part. I just read that level changes are not counted as a WP.

Her class, her rules.
To say the least.

Back to the original question, you’re a few weeks in. No you should not drop down because you may hypothetically get a B+.

I’ve had teachers with that rule. In fact, many college professors have that rule, so I think high school teachers do that to prepare you. It sucks, but there isn’t anything you can do. Do not drop down.

So if I were to get a B in the honors class, would it still be better than an A in the Academic(Regular) class?
Again, my high school does not weight honors courses which will affect my class rank and weighted GPA, which then affects college admissions.

its one class. It won’t kill you. Plus dropping down will be looked at negatively. Its a B, its not the end of the world. Honors is still more rigorous, regardless of how your school weights.

According to the school website, dropping down from honors to regular does not count as a withdrawal and won’t appear on my permanent record.

Ignore the last sentence of my first post about the withdraw passing (WP). It only applies to those who actually drop out of a course.

So is it still worth it to keep the honors course?

I have heard that the UC’s won’t look at it as an honors course if it is not an approved honors course, which isn’t because I’m out of state.
