I am currently a freshman taking honors English 1. I am currently off to a bad start. I got a 71 on the first test I redid it for an 80 because the teacher allows corrections up to an 80. I currently have an 84 in the class. I don’t know if I want to stay because the class is getting harder and harder. She gives us Ap level tests which most other english teachers don’t. We also get lots of pop quizzes as well. I am tempted to drop out because I don’t want to start off with a bad gpa this year.
What’s your planned major?
I am not 100% sure yet but I want to do well and get a high gpa.
What other classes are you taking?
What did you take in middle school?
Before you do anything, ask your guidance counselor whether if you drop to English regular, you can get back to honors and on what conditions.
It matters because a good performance in English honors 10 is typically a pre-req for AP English language which is a very important class to take for selective 4-year colleges.
Depending on what college you’d like to attend you may thus derail your plans if you drop out of English honors. Of course if you end duo with a C you’ll be in English 10 regular too so you have to figure out what matters to you, how much more work you can do, what help you can get.
So, now you have a low B. Can you ask for extra credit? If you don’t get something, ask for help? A tutor?
@MYOS1634 I am doing Honors English 1, Ap Human Geo, Honors Bio, and Honors Geometry. I am doing well in all the others. I have always beeen good in English in general, but I’m doing bad right now. The teacher is really making the class much harder than it is supposed to, because all of the other teachers except the gt teacher are much easier. I’m planning to get help and work much harder but if I still don’t do well I might drop.
Could you drop to Honors English 1 NON G/T?
I would keep it. If you can keep up an 80% or better this year, then you will be well prepared for next year and can stay on the honors track. It is more important to learn and challenge yourself than to get A’s in CP English.
