Should I Drop Honors English?

Hi everyone,

So this past week was my first week of sophomore year, and I have a very loaded schedule. I'm in honors chemistry, algebra II, and English, as well as pre AP Spanish and AP European history. Writing however, has always been my weak point and I just received a C and a B- on my first two in class writing assessments and currently have a 78 in the class, which for the record is the lowest grade I've ever had recorded in a grade book. I plan to apply to higher level colleges (MAYBE Ivy League but not sure yet) and major in some form of biochemistry/molecular biology in college. In a sense it's the age old question of should I take the lower grade in the honors class or the A in the normal level class. Should I continue the struggle into honors English (which I should note is the only way to get 2 AP English classes) or should I switch down into normal level English?

I think English is important no matter what you plan to do in college, so I would recommend staying in the class because the things you will learn will be invaluable…unless you have a bad teacher. But I’d like to see what others have to say.

In the long run, you are better served, IMO, by staying in honors English.

stay in honors.

Read the reviews on “Rate my Teacher” for your honors English teacher and ask your Counselor if you can switch teachers if necessary.

Talk with the teacher about what you need to do to improve.

For those who may care: I spoke with the teacher and she explained the majority of students are if not in the same range, worse off than myself. So I think I’m gonna give it a shot.
Thanks everyone
