Should I drop my Science Research class?

The teacher is very unreasonable (I'd go into more detail, but I doubt anyone wants to listen), and all she does is just tell us the dates of many science fairs. I am literally doing everything myself, on my own time, and through this class I found out what I want to do (Psychology) and found a few mentors and designed/conducted every experiment so far entirely by myself. In addition, I've written every paper by myself and had one published.

My question is can people still enter science fairs who are not part of this class? Like is it possible to do independent research and then enter something like Siemens/Intel? And wouldn't it look more prestigious to conduct award-winning research by yourself? I mean, I know it sounds selfish, but I feel that since I have a teacher (who does nothing), then she gets a lot of the credit, even if all she does it just remind me when everything is due. =_=

And also, do you think its worth it? I mean, its a class where we do independent research and the teacher grades us, but...its INDEPENDENT research, so why should we be graded on our interests? And I have taken this class for two years and I need art credit to graduate. So I was thinking that I might drop this class next year and take Music Theory and then the year after take AP Music Theory. Does that sound like a good idea, or should I just TRY to bear with this class?

I'm in such a research program as well..............

However, I just take the class during lunch.......

My teacher pretty much tells us when everything is due, but he also gives us opprotunities to do internships in labs and stuff.....

So I wouldn't mind staying in the class.......

If you feel AP Music Theory is more important than the research class, then by al means drop it.........it is your schedule and ultimately ur decision.......However, if the class is offered during lunch, or zero period (in the morning) as it is in my school, you may want to take it during those periods..

You can definitely do research and submit things outside of a class. Most "Science Research" classes are just there to help you along, or to provide a forum in which to present your research to your classmates (think of it like peer-review). However, it is definitely not a necessary component to a successful research project.
