Should I drop out of a class?

I have an AP class I am really struggling now. I have asked help from the teacher but still don’t really seem to understand it. I keep trying but it seems so confusing. I passed that class with a C- last term and the class is just gonna get harder. I don’t know if I can pass this class with this grade and it’s bringing me so much stress for it. The thing is that I have already applied to colleges early action so that if I drop it, I would have to call the college admissions and my transcript for that class would be a W. Will it affect on how colleges will accept me later on if I just drop this class? I haven’t heard back from any colleges yet. Should I drop this class now when colleges haven’t decided if I get in or to wait until decisions come out and then drop it? Does it even matter when I drop out? I just want to make sure my GPA is ruined with the class and that I don’t ruin my chances of getting into college if I drop a class. If I drop this class, this means I will only take 1 AP class for my whole high school career but I am enrolled have been enrolled in a bunch of honors class my past 3 years of high school. Is 1 AP class in high school enough for competitive universities?

Define “competitive”

Which class?

What do you hope to major in?

How many APs does your HS have? If they have 20 and you took 1, that does not look great…but there are many colleges for which that is fine. If they have 3 and you took 1 then that is another story.

If you do drop a class, you will have to notify the colleges you applied to because now your story has changed. If you cannot hack an AP class, will you be able to hack college classes?

Talk to your GC about what they recommend.

You need to change what you are doing for studying:

It’s AP Computer Science. I hope to major in nursing but before I wanted to major in computer science but after taking the ap computer science for a term, I feel like this is not the right thing for me. My school offers 21 AP Classes.

1 AP isn’t enough for competitive colleges unless you attend a school that offers 2-4 only.

That being said, you can drop it but must replace it with another class. Then call the colleges and let them know you switched out of AP CS and picked

Hopefully you didn’t apply for CS to all these colleges though, or indicate in an email that you want to switch your major choice.

No, I did not apply to all these schools for CS. I applied for nursing. It’s second term now so if I drop it, I won’t be able to replace it with another class now because it’s already too far ahead. I already have enough courses I need to graduate. I now have more than enough classes for the minimum courseload in school so I don’t think I need to replace another class. Taking too many classes gets crazy. I am applying to large state universities mostly which are kinda competitive but not like Ivy-league level competitive.

Doesn’t your school offer semester-long classes?
What you need to graduate is different from what you need to get into college, especially if the college is selective.
CS is not necessary for nursing so you’re good on that account.
What classes are you taking this year?
