So I’m a senior applying to a bunch of Ivy Leagues and other top schools like MIT and Stanford. Throughout high school, I have taken over 9 APs and have As and Bs. my GPA (weighted) is about 4.05 because these were such difficult courses at a magnet school.
So this year, I wanted to take AP Stat but my school didn’t have room for me, so they put me in Multivariable Calculus. I currently have a D in this class. Would it be wiser to get a Withdraw Pass (it will show on my transcript like that) or just keep the D. The rest of my grades this year are straight A’s, so it’s only this class that is causing the problem. And considering I got stuck in Multi, would colleges be okay with seeing the D?
I literally did not have a choice actually, they didn’t have room for me anywhere else. And since I was qualified to take it, they put me in the class.
But thanks for the feedback. Do I just email the admissions office or something? Who do I ask from each college?
Get a withdraw pass. Do it now. You don’t want the D on your transcript with all the explaining it will entail. You will need to tell admissions that you changed your course schedule, but the only explanation required is that you were over-committed. Being pro-active at reducing your work load is vastly better than toughing it out with a D.
