Should I drop this class?--Business Statistics

I enrolled in a business statistics class this summer. I figured that would allow me to really focus on it and get it my best shot. The problem is my professor. He spends about 50% of classtime telling us random stuff about his life. He is a former farmer, complete with the accent and constant farm talk. I have yet to really learn anything of importance. He has also told us that he "don't believe in none of that grade inflation stuff. People don't be makin A's and B's on his test. They be making C's because that's average. But don't be worryin', I will add a few points to it. Like if you get a 70, I might add 8 points." I'd really like to get a good grade and I feel like it will be impossible because 1) he makes sure people do "average" on tests and 2) he doesn't teach us anything. I would be afraid of going to his office hours for fear of having to hear about farming for hours and getting nothing accomplished. All my friends that have taken this class graduated this past May, so I couldn't ask them for help. I don't know if this is something I could teach myself.

The reason why I don't know if I want to drop it is because I'd have to wait until the spring to take it with someone else. Other students say that the spring teacher is horrible and no help, but other people that I am friends with (the professor is also their club sponsor) say he is very helpful and will do ANYTHING to make sure you do good. I have my schedule pretty well planned out and I don't know that I can postpone this class and the classes that have it as a pre-req and still graduate on time.

I have until Monday to make my decision if I drop the class. Any advice would be great especially from those who have taken the class and know how difficult it is!

What are you supposed to be covering in this stat course? The material might not be so bad for you to learn it on your own. You might find that you spend hours and hours outside of class, but it is probably worth it to graduate on time.

Is his philosophy of everyone getting 70s on tests really different from courses where they curve to a C and cap the number of As?

I learn most of the material from my classes on my own. I don’t see why you can’t. Read the book.

Business statistics? I learned real statistics from a book. Y’know, statistics that involve deriving distributions and estimators, with not calculators allowed.

I’m sure you can do the same.
