It’s my junior year and my first semester schedule was:
Intro to Engineering
Hospitality
AP Spanish Language
AP World
AP Calculus BC
Honors Chemistry
AP English Language
I currently have a 4.3 GPA, but after this semester it will drop to a 3.9 – this is mostly because I got a C in calc.
At the beginning of the semester, one of my good friends died and I also skipped a lot of school. I would like to think those are the reasons for my low grade, but I am not sure. I’ve heard second semester is much harder.
Should I drop the class? Or should I keep it? I have never gotten a C before.
Have you tried going to tutoring?
It would seem that a single C would not be the sole contributor to the 4.3 to 3.9 drop. Did your other grades drop as well, perhaps to Bs instead of your more typical As?
If you’re up to it the best course of action is a graceful recovery. Continue with the course for second semester. Get an A. Then take the AP exam and get a 5.
I go in every day at lunch and studied for 6 hours for my exam at Panera with my friends and still got an E (my county’s equivalent to an F).
I got a C first quarter, an A second quarter; CAE becomes a C on a transcript.
Talk to your GC maybe? If I were you I wouldn’t drop it, that’s just me. A “C” is room for improvement, if it was an F or D I would say drop. Its a class that looks good on top colleges, not sure where you’re planning to apply to though.
I’m really sorry about your friend. I don’t think a C and a 3.9 are the end of the world. You can always include the effect that your friend’s death had on you in the area for that on the CA (that’s what I did with my medical condition.)
I’d recommend that you stick it out, because you never know when it’ll suddenly click. Also, I’d recommend going to extra help with the teacher one on one because I find that’s better than studying with my friends.
