The class is Intro to Microeconomics at JHU. I am a freshman.
The deadline to take a class pass/fail is 2moro the 30th.
I just got my first exam back and I got an F! A D was equal to 40 points and I got 36....

I am only taking 12 credits so I can not withdraw from the course. However, I do have the option of taking it pass fail so if I do get a D in the course, it wont screw up my GPA.

However, the prof did say that people do much better on the final than the midterm and the final is worth a lot more. My TA section is worth 25%.

Um...here's the catch--if I take Microeconomics pass/fail then I simply cant be an International Studies major anymore...and I want to be lol. I will have to do History or Political Science or whatever.

I just dont know what to do and it's too late to talk to anyone in depth. Is it worth having a potentially low GPA??

Why do you think you did so poorly on the exam? If you can realistically raise your final grade to at least a C, than I suggest you not change to pass/fail. You are only a freshman and should not be making major decisions based upon one poor test result (it happens–one bad test is not the end of the world). On the other hand, if you truly worked hard, understood the subject matter (or thought you did), and still did that poorly, perhaps you are not cut out to be an economics student (and economics is an intregal part of international studies). I assume you took Macroeconomics first semester. While I know first semester grades are covered, I assume that you know what grade would have otherwise been on your transcript. There is no reason why your final grade in Micro should not be similar (or better) than your Macro grade.

If you can, you should talk to your professor and your TA for advice.

Thanks Im just concerned because the whole class is solely based on this one exam, the final and then section grade.
Macro, I passed, but I had more opportunities to do well.

I wish I had time to talk to them…but the deadline is 2moro.

Im going to decide in the morning.
