my dream is to go to Lehigh and I am planning on EDing…
I have around a 3.7 UW GPA but my test scores are very low… around a 1700 is it a waste to ED to one of them? I am planning on taking the SAT again in October

Why don’t you take the ACT too and see how you do on that test? Also, are you planning to enroll in any test taking tutoring service? My son was able to raise his cumulative ACT score by 5 points after taking a Kaplan course. The course was $1,000 and he ended up being awarded a Dean’s Scholarship by Lehigh which gave him $10,000 each of his 4 years at Lehigh. So, for my son, the Kaplan course gave us a fantastic return on our investment.
Some people do better on the ACT. Please consider taking it.
The 3.7 GPA is great. I do not think Lehigh judges you by your composite score. If you want to go into Engineering they would expect you to score pretty well in math. However, they wouldn’t put as much importance on your writing abilities. My son didn’t take the SAT for I don’t know much about it. I do know the ACT has a reputation as putting more emphasis on math and science so if those areas are your strong suit, like they were for my son, the ACT might be the better test to take.
I think an Early Decision application is a great idea for anyone who is sure that Lehigh is their top choice - AND has the financial resources to potentially pay the entire cost of tuition without any financial aid package offered from Lehigh. Please just Google Lehigh Catalog and Early Decision. You will see that you will be making a binding decision to attending Lehigh regardless of what financial aid package they offer you.Every year I see someone posting on CC who has applied Early Decision and wants to get out of their contract because they are not happy with the financial package they received.
I am very impressed with your early planning. I hope you are planning to visit Lehigh sometime soon? Make sure you sign in with the Admissions office so your visit is on record. If you live in the region a college tour is sort of expected.
Best of luck and keep us posted!!!
