I recently submitted my Common Application to several schools. Once I got back to school, I changed some of my classes and I’m no longer taking two of the courses listed under the “Current Year Courses” section of the Common App. Should I email my regional admissions counselor about these changes? I was thinking about saying I changed my schedule and simply listing the courses I’m enrolled in now. Is this a good idea?
Also, today I was accepted to an exclusive mentorship/program at a local business relating to my intended major. Is this worth emailing my regional admissions counselors about?
Let me know what you think!
Yes, you must inform any and all colleges to which you have applied to of any changes in your senior year course schedule. If you do not, and it is later discovered that your course rigor dipped (I don’t know whether or not that is the case here; I’m just stating a general case) or you changed your courses in a way that the college(s) do not approve of, your admission may be revoked or other action may be taken.
You should inform the schools you applied to about your new EC if you feel that it will help your application.
That being said, I believe both of the above issues may be communicated to schools through the Mid-Year Report. Ask your guidance counselor if this is the case; if not, you may need to send individual emails to each college.
Let them know! I started my common app at the beginning of the year before I was bumped out of biochemistry for scheduling issues and forgot to take it out. A quick, apologetic email to the adcoms will suffice. I’m sure they’ll be understanding.
Yes, let them know all of it. Talk to your GC. Sometimes they will contact the schools as well, but at the very least you should draft a short email explaining the changes to your application, and send it the regional admissions reps for the schools you applied to. Good luck!
