<p>Hi, so I'm basically a UC kid, and though I'm happy with the UC schools, I'm also very interested in applying to Columbia and living in New York. I don't know what shot I have at the school though, so I'm asking for any knowledgeable people's opinions</p>

<p>It’ll mostly be your relatively weak SAT/ACT and extracurriculars that will hurt your chances. It’s extremely unlikely, but if you feel you would really regret not applying, and the application fees are not an issue, it may be worth it for you.</p>
<p>I’m going to give you a hint of advice my father gave me… If you don’t try then you know the answer is NO. I wouldn’t let anyone on this forum discourage me from applying where I want to. This is their opinion on you and they don’t even know you. Let’s say you decide not to apply just because they said you weren’t good enough, but if you had applied and you wrote a super good essay and they found you to be interesting and a good asset you would have had an acceptance letter. You never know what the future holds. I really don’t like to see this much discouragement and bitter judgement on the forums. I know it’s good to be realistic, but I think everyone has a fighting chance. You just have to know what you have that could start a spark.</p>
