I came to American 2009 summer. really low ACT score, great essay, decent E/Cs..... do u guys think I even have a chance of getting in??

It will be hard with current rank and scores. They get many highly qualified Korean candidates, especially since they brought in the new Korean president.

I wouldn’t worry too much about your rank/GPA as long as you have something to offset it. What makes you different? That’s what Dartmouth wants to know. There are plenty of kids with 33+ on the ACT that will get rejected because they were cookie-cutter kids that have nothing /new/ to say. Seeing as you already applied I don’t know what to tell you… But if your essays showed a unique person that can really add something to the student body, I’d say you have a good chance. It doesn’t matter what the other “qualified Koreans” did, what matters is what you did.
Edit: SAT II’s are crucial… They seriously won’t overlook that, so I hope you have them scheduled.

hahalolk/ 23E 33M 24R 28S (combined best scores are 24E, 36M, 24R, 30S)
Dedede/ I’m taking it this saturday and next january)
2c2c/ thanks for ur comment.
Johz/ yea, I’m taking it.
Calliefla/ I def have a strong essay, good recommendation (really good one from a prof), some awards. Since I knew I have a weak test scores and low gpa, I reall focused on other things. and yea, I totally agree with u that Dartmouth won’t have a special vision only for Koreans b/c their president is Korean…

Well, thanks guys… I guess all I have to say is… let’s see what’s gonna happen!! lol

Also, for what it’s worth, I’ve heard from a friend at Dartmouth (former econ major) that math majors tend to leave their concentration in droves, and Dartmouth knows that. So, if you could give them the impression that you’re definitely sticking with math, that can only help you. :)

ohh I see… that could help me. Since all recommendations (counselor, math teacher, prof) were my ability in math and how I did well in my first yr in America, I might have a little chance
Also in the essay, I mentioned about math (not mainly, but I did emphasize that I’m into mathematics).
