I have no SAT's yet..with my stats what should I aim for?
If I get SAT's needed and have good Essay and Rec's what are my chances?

What should I improve on to get accepted and what SAT's should I get?
Thanks for any feedback.

Please someone...anyone??

Honestly, you don't have a chance at acceptance. You have a bad GPA for Yale's standards and even poorer ECs. My friend last year had a 4.0 a 34 ACT and was a state track champ. He was rejected. $75 is alot for an application, seriously, save your money.

I don't mean to be cruel, but that's the reality. ALSO: that is your weighted GPA, yale will adjust it. You won't even be close to a 4.0

You can try - you have to think of your app as a "complete picture" of you. There has to be something unique about you, why you are applying to Yale, etc., and you need to make sure that story comes through in the application. Also it has to be clear from the app you are a top student, since that won't immediately be clear from your class rank/GPA.

Skip it. Look at your class rank.

You should definitely apply!
(If you sill want to attend Yale when it's time to make your college list.)

Yes, your grades aren't good for Yale but an upward trend is a very big plus. The good thing is that you still have your junior year, which is the most important one. Enroll in the most rigorous classes and get stellar grades!

Grades really aren't the only thing they look at but you should still study your butt off.
If you receive high SAT scores and if you can make your teachers vow for you, you definitely have a legitimate shot.
Don't get your hopes up too high, though. It's a crapshot for everyone.

Good luck!

no. upward trends do not work for the tops schools such as yale. you better be good from the start. if your grades aren't that good, how do you think your SATs will be better? Although there is no causation between the two, there is a pretty close correlation. While people say that SAT and grades are not everything, it is most of the app (it has the most weight in relation to the other 2, ECs and Essay). Many people play those two factors down.

Try for other schools, but HYPS is not for you. sorry.

You need to get a 2300+ and apply to schools that don't look at freshmen grades (i.e. Princeton, I believe Stanford, etc)

What are you guys talking about? If you get straight A's junior year, you def have a chance, especially if you have a good SAT.

I got B's (and a C) freshman year, and I still have a 3.85 unweighted GPA, which will go up next year. I believe 3.75 unweighted is the CC minimum for Yale?

people who meet the minimum have a .001% of getting accepted.

You can't judge a college app without considering the Junior year. With that said, however, I would certainly encourage you to have a strong, strong year. Continued improvement speaks volumes about your character.

Also, don't listen to everyone on this board; half of these people have no idea what they're talking about. Have an amazing junior year, and have great essays and recs, and you'll certainly be in the mix.

You don't say where you live, which could be relevant. If you score very well on the SATs, and do very well in junior year grades, it would not be a waste of time to apply to top schools. However, I think it's fair to say that you shouldn't focus on just one such school, and you should apply to a range of schools, including some that are less competitive than Yale. Remember that it's one thing to say that a person has a good chance to get into a highly competitive school, and something else again to say that she has a good chance to get into any particular highly competitive school.

Thanks everyone. It was pretty much what I was thinking, but I only wanted to go because of their great history department. I am definantly not applying to any other school this selective.

Dude, apply to as many selective schools as you want. You can only increase your chances of getting into one of them.

Don't let morose people like IMX tell you any different. You HAVE a chance. Take it.

It's your application fee. Don't let anyone discourage you from even giving it a shot.

You need to bring up your GPA and your rank with it. Also, you should aim for an extremely high SAT score, top 0.5% if possible.

I hate the term, your ECs are "weak". Just make with what you have and take any opportunity on the way.

Well, good luck. :)

Fix everything before its too late. Look at the common data sets, to see how much you need to fix.
