should i even bother applying as a transfer?

Is it possible you could tell me if I have a chance I could get in? I am worried I am wasting my time. I am a student at the Kogod School of Business at American University. I am majoring in Finance. I am a freshman.

My first semester ended and my GPA is a 3.87 (3 A’s and 2 A-'s) . My essays are following what you told me. is it possible you could see if i have a chance?

I have a recommendation from my business professor, who I am close to. I can ask my writing professor also.
My extra curricular activities include:
-high school investment club founder and president

  • treasurer of student government for 2 years
  • Financial Management Association at the university
  • soon to be summer intern at the department of treasury
  • I am planning on starting my own investment club at the University also next semester
  • took an entrepreneurship course as a junior in high school at the University of Maryland
  • treasurer of UNICEF club
  • worked in retail for 4 years as a technology specialist
  • getting an on-campus job next semester
  • Bloomberg Certified
  • top 1% portfolio in capitol hill challenge (virtual stock exchange game)

My high school stats were:
3.62GPA (UW) 4.25 (W)
SAT: 1820 (Math: 650, Reading: 610, Writing: 560).

I am worried my high school statistics will murder me. Could you give me advice on how i could get in? My reasoning for leaving kogod is: i want a better social atmosphere (one that is more intelligent) and I want to be taking a more rigorous curriculum, unlike what kogod has to offer.

Go for it, why not. Your HS stats are a little below average for Georgetown but not terrible, and you have solid extracurriculars. Georgetown will also like that your first year at AU was very strong. Make sure your essays are top-notch, and if the opportunity presents itself, be sure to explain why you would benefite from being at Georgetwon rather than AU (and go beyond just that Georgetown students are smarter - maybe find something specific about MSB that you really like that Kogod doesn’t offer). They will want to see this because there are quite a few similiarities between Gtown and AU (location, interests of students, etc.), so they’ll want to know what sets them apart in your mind. Best of luck!

@2016senior2020 thank you so much for your response! i will definitely apply now, i hope i get it

@hershey789 Of course! Also, if it doesn’t work out this time around, don’t be discouraged. As high school is farther behind you and you continue to build an impressive resume at American, your somewhat below average high school stats will be given less and less weight. If your mind is really set on Georgetown, just keep doing well at AU and trying your odds at GU until it works out

I think you’ve got a good shot. Also, congrats on the treasury intentship!
