Should I even bother applying to college?

I really want to become a Physician but I messed up bad my first three years of school. Overall I have a 2.4 Gpa and 1200 Sat Score (Math and Reading) I really want to go to SUNY Albany but I fall far below the requirements. I doubt I'll even be able to get into any CUNY schools. At this point I feel like applying to college will only be a waste of my parents money. Should I just join the work force after I graduate?

I would go to a CC and possibly transfer after 2 years. You can do it bro.

I guess there’s no chance of me becoming a doctor then.

Well im in no position to dictate where or how you should live your life. But I am a firm believer in the idea that anything is possible. Sure the chances of becoming a doctor seem slim, yet, if you work hard enough, you can do it. Idk just my 2 cents.

A friend of mine came to America about 3 years ago and went to CC. He enrolled in a local university after two years at the community college and is finishing his degree in Neuroscience. He took the MCAT and is planning to enter med school in a year. So it is possible!

I think you should definitely apply :)

Your GPA’s not good, yes, but your SAT’s show potential. You could go to a CC, but there are many 4-year colleges that would accept you.

There is nothing wrong with going to a CC and then transferring after 2 years! I know quite a few people who did just that and are now getting their Master’s. Believe in yourself!

I know it’s a huge setback but just have faith in yourself and work hard. I doubt that everyone who has ever been granted admission to med school had a perfect high school record. Go to a good CC. And don’t discourage yourself from applying to the CUNY or SUNY system. You have a lot of hope, especially with a strong SAT score.

When you apply to medical school (I hope you eventually do) you can even use your high school history to your advantage. Show how you found a passion and worked extremely hard to improve.

My GPA isn’t that low but I have had a hard time in school as well, even though I’m a smart kid. The public school system wasn’t made for everyone, and that’s the truth. Don’t trick yourself into thinking you aren’t as good, or as smart. You just need to find your niche.

College really gets better for a lot of people. People who didn’t do so well in high school find that they are really successful in college because you’re on much less of a schedule, and you’re studying things you want to study. It’s really your experience, and yours alone.

Put yourself out there, challenge yourself. Even if you fail you can at least say you tried. It’s never too late. You’ll regret not applying and not taking the chance yourself when you’re 30 and can’t get ahead because you never earned your college degree (even though you are obviously capable).

Good luck.

That’s my chance forum, by the way. If you’re curious.

This post is extremely +. Is that weird? Lol

Just go to a CC. Trust me, a lot of my people at my school go to a CC first and then to a college. Just think about the positive things you get from it…

Go to a CC, excel in it, then apply. If you really put a lot of heart into it, you can do it (and I seriously mean it, I’m not trying to be overly supportive and/or cheesy). Just do the best you can; you’re in for a lot of years ahead.

Wow, thank you all so much for the encouraging words. I’ll definitely have a more positive outlook on things. Thank you all!

Not to mention, going to a CC saves you so much money! Don’t waste an opportunity if you have it. I have a friend who got a 1350 on the SAT (CR+M), and had an okay GPA. He chose not to go to college after HS and is now working a minimum wage job while trying to get back into college!

Don’t waste the chance. It’ll take a lot of hard work, like everyone here has pointed out, but get it together, ask for help when you need it, work hard, and you’ll be happier than if you’d never tried at all. :)

Don’t let ANYTHING hold you back from applying!
Yea, it’s maybe not enough to get in, but they still accept students who fall below!
Be positive! Anything can be possible if you have a positive mind about it (:
Good luck x

If you qualify, you could apply to college for free (try to get fee waivers!)
& I don’t know if you are eligible for SUNY EOP and CUNY SEEK but if you are, you will most likely get in and be able to attend a four year college.

youd be crazy not to apply. Make sure you do well wherever you go and then apply to a great graduate school.
