After about a year roaming on CC, over this summer, I basically decided I was just going to apply to my state flagship university and maybe CMU. I really want to major in Materials Science and Engineering and feel like I will get very little chances anywhere else. I am quite poor so it really just eliminates a lot of choices.

My stats:
3.62 UW GPA (Top 10% barely)
33 ACT
780 in Chemistry, and taking Math Level 2 in december.
I have a 5 in Chemistry, 4 in two other AP Tests.
I take a fairly rigorous course load with 7 APs by senior year (With 12 being offered in my school). I am president of two clubs and officer of another and hold some minor awards.
I am likely to get extremely good recommendations, with one about how I climbed my way out of being kicked out of the class to being one of the top students and how the teacher observed my growth.

My question is, considering the competitiveness of Cornells Engineering school, should I even bother applying. Money is an issue but Ivies are really generous with aid. The reason I ask is that I have a relatively low GPA.

Regular decision. I would like to do ED but my scores won’t get there in time. I guess I will go for it. I am not a great writer, I really better make my essay stand out. Any other inputs?

I’m pretty sure you can send in your app and then your scores afterwards, unless it’s so late that the scores actually get there after decisions.

Might as well apply and see what they offer you.

So can I just ask, what do you guys think my chances actually are? Obviously its difficult to tell but from someone who has seen the type of people getting accepted, what are mine?

you only list academic stuff here when the application really is about the whole picture, not just academics. if you would really like to be at Cornell Engineering, demonstrate that desire through your app and build a compelling story.
