Should I even bother applying to MIT?

Hey guys, I'm a rising senior at a highly competitive high school in NJ, and I would like to know my chances at the schools I hope to apply to.

Early: Penn, Caltech, MIT, UMich, U Wisconsin-Madison, UNC Chapel Hill, Georgetown

RD: Cornell, Yale, Stanford, UC Berkeley, Rutgers, UCLA, Dartmouth, Brown, Columbia

However, it is my absolute dream to go to MIT, but shelling out 80 bucks with my stats seems pointless.
Applying to some, like Princeton and Harvard, for French, while applying to others for math.

SAT: 2380
SAT II's:
Math IIC: 800, French: 800, Biology E: 790, Physics: 800

GPA: 3.71(UW), 4.50 W

Freshman year:
Bio Honors: B
Chem Honors: B
Precalc Honors: B
World History: A
French 2: A
LA Honors: A
Gym: A
Health: B

Sophomore year:
AP Bio:B
Phys Honors:B
Multivariable Calculus Honors: A
LA Honors: A
US History Honors: A
French 3: A
Health: B
Gym:A

Junior Year:
AP Phys C: A
AP US: A
AP Lang: A
AP French: A
AP Statistics: A
Journalism: A

I took courses in AP Calculus and Geometry at CTY, hence the advanced math courses.
Got a B in AP Calculus BC and an A in Honors Geometry from CTY. I also took courses in differential equations and linear algebra at the local community college, getting A's in both.

Senior Year:
My school offers its students the opportunity of taken legitimate undergrad courses at Princeton University, with Princeton students. I will be taking one in French.

EC's:
Got gold medals in Remote Sensing, Ornithology and Disease Detectives in the Science Olympiad state tournament this year.I was on the 1st place team as well. Was on the nationals team. Got a gold at nationals in a microbio event.

Got 1 gold medal at states last year, but did not go to nationals.

I have a USCF rating of about 1520.

Participated and placed in National Ocean Science Bowl, as well as DOE Science Bowl.

Qualifed for USAMO this year. Failed freshman and sophomore year.
USABO, semifinalist
Treasurer of Math Club junior year. Have been elected Secretary of Science Club.
Tiered in Mandelbrot twice. Participated at Princeton Math Competition and HMMT.

I don't mean to sound overconfident, but I'm pretty sure I'll be a National AP Scholar once my scores come out this year, for what it's worth.

Well, that's my CV, guys. I'm really nervous, and would truly appreciate some advice. Should I even bother applying to the Ivies? I am a Chinese male.

You have a 2380, four perfect/practically perfect SAT IIs, and you’re worried about stats? Ok, a 3.71 UW is straight up bad for MIT and the like, sure, but you demonstrate upwards trend and clearly pushed yourself in mathematics. Multivariate calc sophomore year is madness. You may already know this, but some schools you listed such as Stanford ignore freshman year entirely. Yes, apply to MIT. Over 90% of the overachieving students who apply there don’t make it, you don’t have to feel sore about it if you don’t get in. $80 is worth chasing a dream for. On a personal note, I can sympathize you about MIT, it’s been my dream to go there since I began the college process, but the odds are so slim.

Could give you a better idea of your chances if you supplied class rank and AP scores.

you should retake your SAT’s, a 2400 is sooooo much better than a 2380. That B in health looks pretty bad for MIT, can you retake it? Maybe you could also try to get another gold medal or start a club at your school. National AP Scholar is no big deal, try to win state. Lastly I would get that abysmal SAT II in Bio up!

Good luck! Make sure you have lots of safety’s!

^no.
You have excellent standardized test scores, but your GPA is not great for MIT. Look at other schools too of course, but maybe apply EA and make it evident how much you want to go there.

Dude I would kill for your stats lol just apply

The only weakness which could hurt you is your UW GPA, but overall you have a solid chance at all those schools.

Asian male from NJ and 3.71UWGPA

But,
Great SAT I and SAT II scores
USAMO
USABO
Linear Algebra and Diff EQ

Very impressive!

It seems that you have many safety schools: UW Madison, UNC, U Michigan and Rutgers.

Very good chances at UCB and UCLA.

Good idea to use EA to MIT, Cal Tech and Georgetown.

What about EA to U Chicago? It has a very strong math program.

Good luck to you!

Thanks for all the input!
@experientiadocet,

My AP Scores are as follows
AP US: 5
AP Lang: 5
AP French: 5
AP Physics C-Mechanics: 5
AP Physics C-Electricity and Magnetism:4
AP Calculus BC: 5
AP Biology: 5
AP Chemistry:5
AP Computer Science A: 5
AP Statistics: 5
AP Psychology: 5

My school doesn’t rank, but I am reasonably sure that I am in the top 10%

^ That’s definitely helpful. lol.

i certainly wouldn’t be surprised if you get early by Caltech/MIT, but neither would i be surprised if you don’t (k, i kinda would be surprised if you get rejected by Caltech with your high achievements in math, both in school adn competitional). You have a pretty good chance with achievements such as USAMO (ftw) and USABO( i assume this is the bio version of math…bio is hard)
you are almost definately going to Berkeley/UCLA. i don’t like how Pumac is just after the deadline for many college apps…

Edit: Nvm. 10 char.
