Should I even bother applying to UCLA?

It's a fantastic school and it's got fantastic programs in my intended area of study. The only thing that's holding me back is the money. I'm an out of state student, so I know I wouldn't get much.

Here are some stats: 2210 SAT (780W/690M/740W), 3.7 UW GPA, took most rigorous courses in HS, income: ~$65k/year and facing lots of hardship.

Does anyone think I would get enough money to be able to attend at little cost? Or should I just not apply because I'm out of state and they definitely won't give me anything. I don't want to go with the "Just apply and see what happens!" method because apps are costly...

Any thoughts?

Probably not. You can expect any Pell Grant you qualify for, a $5500 Stafford loan and maybe some work study. After that the most I’ve seen an OOS student get in grant money lately was $5K. They have all the top students they need from CA, they are looking for money from the OOS kids.

Yeah, I’m not surprised. My neighbor got into UCLA and UCB last year but couldn’t go because they gave him absolutely no money, but his financial situation is way different than mine so I didn’t know if it would make a difference.

Thanks for the help.
