Should I even bother applying?

I'm currently a junior looking to apply to NYU (CAS) next year. It's my number one choice, but also a reach. This is mainly because of my weighted GPA...which is a 3.6. (I know). My school does not provide unweighted grades. Could admissions possibly look past this shortcoming?

I scored a 2200 on my SATs, that being the only time I took the exams. I'm president of my schools model UN team, editor in chief of our paper, and have job. As for volunteer work, I have approximately 140 hours (if that's even taken into consideration now). My course load has been moderately rigorous (4 APs by the time I graduate, 7 honors)...but I fear that my GPA is not up to par and this will lead to my acceptance being deterred.

I got into CAS with a 2000 SAT, 570 Math SAT II and a 630 ish Chem SAT II. No extraordinary extracurriculars. My weighted GPA is 4.0, but going purely by numbers your test scores probably counteract my GPA.

By the way, did you get your user name from the Arctic Monkeys?

Thank you for your input. Congratulations on your acceptance!

And yes I did, they’re one of my favorite bands. I’m happy to see someone recognizing it, I wasn’t too sure that anyone would haha( :

definitely! if it’s your top choice, you owe it to yourself to at least try! i was accepted ED to scps tisch center with a 3.5 WGPA, 1900 SAT, 600 spanish reading, 540 chem, with lots of leadership ecs and experience in my major

Yes, do apply. I myself got accepted into CAS with a 2120 SAT (superscored), 710 Math 1 and 740 Literature. I’m from Malaysia, so we don’t have GPA’s though I did mess up A levels.

That said, I think they look beyond statistics. Your essay is definitely important, so work really hard on that. If they like your story and if your SAT scores are decent (yours most certainly are), then you’ll be sure to get in.
