Should I even bother to fill out an application?

MIT has always been a sort of "dream college" for me, but looking around at some of the other prospective applicants, I'm not even sure if I should apply. Would you guys chance me please? I'm currently a rising senior.

Please be brutal.

Everyone asks this. You’re probably fine.

If you don’t apply, you have a 0% chance of admission.

Your app looks good. Apply.

lots of ECs, but participation only. Complete lack of focus, which hurts your passions argument. Being Asian doesn’t exactly help. I would put you at “forlorn hope” at best.

i think messiah is being waaayyy too harsh. I’m sorry, but you probably don’t know enough about what goes on in admissions (like the rest of us) to tell somebody with some pretty good credentials that they’re pretty much hopeless.

Herein lies the problem. Nobody really has any definite answer for anybody. You can’t say, ‘oh, you’re definitely going to get in’ but neither can you really say it’s hopeless. The former is false ego building, and the latter is a killjoy comment. And this is why chance threads are useless.

Yes you should bother to fill out an application. I can tell you’re too modest to think you have a good chance of getting in ;)
