I'm an incoming freshman to UCSB's honors program (top 5% of admitted students selected) and am interested in applying to Columbia as a sophomore transfer for a variety of legitimate reasons- most significant being the abundance of comp lit and classics majors offered at CU vs the 4 or 5 at sb. My high school stats are decent (I was admitted to Barnard but couldn't attend bc of unforeseen financial setbacks): 3.82 UW 4.1 W, 32 on act with 35s on reading and English, AP lit and lang (5s on both) , AP psych (5), AP gov and us history(4s on both) and 3s on stats and biology. Lots of internships, varsity sport, leadership, and volunteer work but nothing extraordinary.

My second semester high school grades took a dip as I wasn't thinking ahead to prospectively transferring and I ended up with 3 Bs and 3 As with 4 AP classes that year. I'm planning on excelling at sb (as is every incoming college freshman) and getting involved heavily with leadership and whatnot in fields I enjoy, and am capable of writing good essays, but am still feeling like its futile to even try. My course load won't be too impressive as I'm forced to take a lot of intro level classes and have passed out of the schools history and English reqs and have to wait until I have junior standing to take most classes I want. I guess this has turned into more of a vent than a question but if it had to be summarized into a question: should I even bother applying?

I know there's no way to answer this without any of my college stats, and no one can claim certainty in a lot of the aspects of the admissions game, but if anyone has any insight into my chances or what I could do to better them, I'd more than appreciate it.

Whether this gets responses or not it did feel pretty cathartic to get my anxieties written down :)
