After being deferred ED I decided to call my regional admissions person and ask her what I could do to improve my application. She told me that the committe was suprised by my "modest" SAT I Math score (630) when compared to my challenging math courseload. I was wondering if I should bother retaking the SATs in January, do you think that they'll consider my scores from the Jan 22nd test?? What do you guys think?

lol synthetic..well I will try because i hate regretting things (I regret not studying for the SATs..ugh.), plus I mean..it doesn't hurt to apply because it's free..hehe:)

of course i had plans to apply..but like i have no chance..but i really dont like talkin about chances on the site..cuz who honestly knows my chance other than the admissions ppl..anways i will apply..and yes this board even though became kinda boring..still rocks..cuz u ppl still rock!..and columbia obviously rocks..i was passing by it yesterday..its soo pwetty..but im not obsessed..i decided to just apply to colleges..and w/e happens happens..

They do look at the SATs as a pretty important part of your app.. I suggest you show them that you can do better (if you want to increase your chances this time round).

Davidpien - I was also deferred but never met my regional admisisons person, so I'm afraid to call her up out of the blue. Had you ever met yours? How did you get her phone number? Did you think about emailing her? Somebody posted the other day that they called theirs but got a VERY cold reception from her. Don't know what to do.......... Advice please!!!

columbiadreamin- after working up the guts to finally do it, i called up the admissions office at columbia. I explained to the reception person that i was deferred ED and wanted to reach my regional counselor to discuss my application. the person at reception wasnt very helpful, saying that my admissions person would probably not be able to say much. however, he transferred me to her voicemail saying she left her office for the day. I left a message introducing myself and explaining my situation. I left her my home phone and email address. Within two days I recieved a lengthy email explaining the ED round and addressing specific things i could do to improve my chances RD. She seemed more than happy to help, and I emailed her back thanking her for her email, it made me feel a lot better about being deferred.

oh btw, i havent been on the board much recently, but if anyone wants to know the final breakdown for ED decisions it was:
50% rejected
27% deferred
23% accepted
