Should I even try applying to 4 year college?

Hi,

I am currently a senior at an all girls college preparatory catholic high school. My first two years of high school were a disaster. I was bullied, depressed, constantly absent and during my sophomore year I was admitted into the hospital for a suicide attempt. It wasn't up until the second quarter of Junior year I became motivated in my academics and improved my grades. Though, due to my first two years of high school my GPA is hurting. I currently have a 2.1 GPA.

Since the colleges I am looking still take applicants in February I have come up with a plan. I am planning to take a SAT prep course and take the SAT in either October or November, continue to improve my grades, add up on community service and add one or two extracurricular at school, and apply to college in January after my first semester of senior year.

With 7 classes this year(one online course) I understand my GPA can't improve up too much but I hope to bring my GPA up to a 2.3.

I understand even Cal States are out of reach due to a GPA lower than 2.5 but with explaining my situation on my essay along side a letter of recommendation plus community service, is applying to University of La Verne and Azusa Pacific University and Marymount College(Not Loyola Marymount but Marymount college in Palos Verdes) completely out of my reach??

Should I simply not bother with SAT prep, SAT's and not apply at all and go straight to my local junior college instead?

I am very sorry that you had two rough years! You should def apply to four year schools and focus on getting ready for your SATs. There is no reason not to try. I wish you the best of luck and congrats for turning your life around!

Thank you very much for the words of encouragement!

Apply and study as much as you can.
Don’t give up.Good luck!

Not sure about those schools but if you have a pulse you can get into Arizona State.

By pulse I mean if you get a 24 ACT or 1110 SAT (math+cr) you can get in.

@teenbodybuilder: These targets are also those I give for U Missouri… that’s part of their auto-admit plan.

Marymount: Aim for 22+/1600+
La Verne: Aim for 26+/1800+
Azusa: Aim for 24+/1700+

I also want to go to Azusa pacific but I’m worried I won’t get in. I am a high school senior. I would really want to go to Azusa Pacific. It is the only school I want to apply to. What worries me is that I have a cumulative 2.5 GPA. I got a 1180 in the SAT. I recently took the ACT which I think I did better. I have taken 3 years of French but I also know Spanish. I have a medal for more than 100 service hours. I’m currently taking College Prep math and English. I’ve also done 2 years of track and field. I have been in two clubs. I am also Christian (APU is a Christian school). I want to major in nursing (RN) to become a Neonatal nurse. So I would really want to get accepted but will I? Will they accept me? If anyone can tell me it be great. I’m just really worried.

But for you I think you should try. I’m trying to apply to. I hear it’s easy to get accepted in APU. But I see their acceptance rate and it looks harder. But either way you should try. Take ACT and ACT to increase your chances.
