Should I even try....?

For the past few weeks I've been talking to classmates and everyone is discussing their college apps and yaddy yaddy ya, just babbling the same egotistic stuff over and over. A lot of people in my class are smart and "headed" towards MIT. I would consider my self on the lower upper end, if that makes any sense, and I don't consider (nor want to be) an elitist. :(
The problem I face is that I really want to apply to MIT RD( I already made my accoutn and everything), but a lot of people are saying I should just save my 60 bucks, because they wont even consider me, since my SAT score is horrible. The reason why I'm here is because I want to really know if the admission peeps will even consider me, or throw me away the second they see my sat score :(.

I know this post might sound hypocritical once ya'll see my other scores, but Im uneasy because I dont know if one thing will bomb the rest (my Sat).

wat I do /b/? Apply or no Apply?

Im a white dude
I took the Sat for the 3rd time... but i dont expect it to get any higher.

anyways, thanks /b/

Yes, you should try. Your CR score is below the 25th percentile for admitted students (680) but I doubt it would be a deal breaker. MIT cares a lot more about how you’d fit in at MIT (and whether or not you’d be able to survive). That said, don’t you still have time to retake the SATs?

Well, I took it for the 3rd time on Nov 5, and i think my sat improved by a lil… like probably a 640 in critical reading and a 670 in writing. Nothing to dramatic, but every bit helps.
Thanks for ur input bro

Hi! I think you should give it a shot! I’m sure you have something special about you that makes you stand out, now all you have to do is show them! I’m applying to MIT RD as well. I’m not the typical student. I don’t have a 2300+ SAT score. I’ve never been a math or science olympiad. I haven’t invented anything or been involved in a research project, but I have a lot of other qualities that set me apart. I think all the SAT scores and GPA do are show that you can handle the work load. Remember, MIT doesn’t want to have a school full of robotic geniuses =)

wow, you make a good point there starbucks, I kinda overlooked that fact. I was like 80% sure that I would apply, but im 100% sure ill apply now. Thanks for the lift-up and good luck to you bro!

No problem! Hopefully we’ll both get in and see each other next year!

You should definitely try, you probably will have a very high chance of getting in.

Thanks for the input man,
I made my decision, I’m applying!
