Should I explain my situation in my essays?

Hi guys. I’m applying to UT for the Spring 2017 semester. I graduated high school this year and was planning on attending another college. However, last summer I injured my knee and subsequently decided to defer my admission, since I knew I’d be on crutches for 2 months (I needed surgery). I wasn’t very satisfied with the college I committed too, though, and I regretted not applying to UT my senior year. So I’m applying now…

Anyway, I was wondering whether I should mention this in my Topic C essay. The prompt says “discuss how your current and future academic and extracurricular activities might help you achieve your goals”. The thing is, I’m not really doing anything right now, since I’m still on crutches. I literally have zero current academic/extracurricular activities that I could write about.

I don’t want UT to think I’m lazy or anything (and I don’t have a job, which makes it worse). I could mention my situation in Topic C, or even choose Topic S instead of A/B and write about it there. However, I’m not sure whether I should reveal the fact that I previously committed to another college. Could that have a negative impact on my application?
