Should I explain "W" grades on UC Transfer Application?

Hi!
I dropped three classes with W’s one term/semester because the teachers said that I had little chance to get A grade, however, two class I probably would’ve got a B, and I would’ve passed the other one. Should I explain this on the UC transfer application, and if so where? Maybe in the “Please explain the GAP in education prior to your transfer term” (but I still completed one class that term/semester and got A grade), or at the end of the application?

There is a spot in the application after the personal insight questions that allows for additional comments. I’d recommend there, but I’m also applying for transfer fall of 2017 so I’m no expert. If there is a gap in your education it needs to be explained and if you think explaining the W’s would help you application then I’d recommend putting it there. (:

I have a W too. No, I don’t think it’s appropriate at all for a school to judge based on that. All it means is withdrawn.

If there were all in the same semester, yes, I’d recommend putting some form of explanation there - like you had to cut back on classes or else risk not performing at your best. The UC’s don’t seem to mind several W’s, but all of them in the same semester might make them raise their eyebrows slightly, so it might be a good idea to quickly explain what happened.
