Should I feel defeated??

Hi I was rejected from my top school's (Pace university) mt program and I'm going to audition next yr. I heard that it's even harder to get in after the 2nd audition but I'm willing to try.I'm going to take dance and more vocal lessons. I just wanted to start this topic for any seniors that wanted to but are not majoring in mt this yr. Am I at a disadvantage because I didn't get in anywhere???

Are you taking a gap year or will you attempt to audition as a transfer student? You might want to consider tweaking your list of schools and trying some that you didn’t originally audition for instead of just re-auditioning for the same programs. Although, I have heard of people getting in after that extra year of training, not Pace specifically but other schools. If you can work it out, an audition coach might make a difference.

Did you apply to other schools and not get into them either? Or is it just Pace that you didn’t get into? How many other schools did you apply to?

You’re definitely not the only one and you can get in after taking a gap year to train. It totally depends on what programs you apply to and students who only apply to top programs or tiny programs often don’t get accepted anywhere. I know 4 or 5 this year going to safeties or programs that they are not all that thrilled about. Did you apply to any of those? If you are going to Pace and trying to reaudition that seems less likely.

Take this year to really figure out what you want and how to work towards it. You should not just think about working towards getting into Pace, but figure out what it is about Pace that you love and where else can you be successful. If you use a gap year wisely, it will be time well spent.

Thanks everyone!! I honestly only applied to Pace’s mt program because it’s the only school I wanted to go to but I’m already considering applying to different schools as well as re-auditioning. I really want to stay in NYC though so I solely considering schools in or near the city.

najal, It is still unclear to the readers here if you plan to attend college next year or if you will take a GAP year. Whatever you do next year it should include a lot of training in acting, voice and dance. You should also try to catch as many college productions that you can so you can find some other programs that may meet your interests as well as become aware of what the colleges are looking for in their candidates. Your persistence is admirable. Keep at it and you will be rewarded but as others have said here, you should not count on one school, rather try to find at least 8-10 schools to audition for and you may be pleasantly surprised. Best of luck to you.

Your original post sounds like you are planning to attend Pace (perhaps you were academically admitted but not artistically?) and then try again for their MT program in the Spring. I think, in that case, you are at a disadvantage, but I am sure someone will correct me if they have other information. There a many good programs in and around NYC. I am sure there are plenty of posts here that can help you make a good, balanced list of schools to research and considere applying to.

Yes, theatermom2013, you are correct. She will have to go to Pace for 5 years if she is able to transfer into the MT program that is, they will take her the following year as a freshman needing 4 full years. Also, there is not much she can do in that year at Pace to improve on for her auditions while another program may permit more acting electives or a GAP year could offer specific training opportunities. Should you feel defeated? No of course not, especially if the experience has brought you to a greater determination and clarity as to how you are going to proceed. Are you at a disadvantage? No, there are numerous posters here on CC who have been rejected from theatre college programs, spent the year improving and have had a few choices the next year.

I am majoring in Communications at Pace this year and planning to audition for the mt program at Pace, Marymount, Montclair, and LIU.

Those are all very good choices naja . Prepare for those auditions this summer and Break a Leg. Must you limit yourself to NYC?

You may also want to consider looking at Wagner, Rider, and Western CT State if you are willing to widen your area a bit, but still want to be close to NYC

Sent from my DROID RAZR using CC

I have considered Wagner as well. I just hope I get into a performing arts program(mt, acting, theater arts) in the school I’m attending in the fall which is Pace.
